Supercharged Solar for Renters Program
Providing eligible landlords with rebates of up to $3,500 to install solar on their rental properties.
Supercharged Solar for Renters Program Now Open
The Supercharged Solar for Renters program is now open. Launched on 12 December 2025, it offers eligible landlords rebates of up to $3,500 to install solar panels on their rental properties.
Solar systems benefit both landlords and tenants alike. The program is expected to help around 6,500 households cut their electricity bills by roughly $700 a year, depending on their location and the size of the solar system installed.
For landlords, adding solar can make a rental property more attractive to prospective tenants, boost its value, and help it stand out in a competitive rental market.
About the Supercharged Solar for Renters rebate
The rebate amount depends on the size (capacity) of the solar system.
System capacity of an eligible solar system refers to the capacity of the system’s inverter, or the total capacity of the system’s panels (whichever is lower).

How to apply for the Supercharged Solar for Renters rebate
A summary of the 2-stage application process is outlined below. Full details can be found in the Applicant Guideline PDF. Read the guidelines to check you’re eligible before applying.
Applications will be processed in order of lodgement date.
Stage 1 – Conditional approval application
To be eligible for a rebate, you must apply for conditional approval and receive a conditional approval letter from the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) before installing your solar system.
Obtaining conditional approval provides you with a level of certainty that you have met the eligibility criteria before committing to the installation and payment of the solar system.
Step 1: Get quotes
To be eligible for the rebate, you must purchase your system from a retailer who is a New Energy Tech Approved Seller. You should always seek multiple quotes and do your own research and comparisons before making a significant purchase decision.
The quote must contain:
- the New Energy Tech Approved Sellers’ business name, ABN and address
- the applicant’s name
- the property address
- quote issue date (quotes dated before 12 December 2025 are ineligible)
- the Solar Accreditation Australia number of the system designer
- as a minimum, the details of the panels and inverter that make up the solar system being installed, including:
– brand names and models of the Clean Energy Council approved modules and approved inverters
– system capacity (size) in kilowatts (kW) demonstrating the system is 3 kW or more
– total cost of purchase and installation of the eligible solar system.
Solar Accreditation Australia number
To be eligible for a rebate your system designer’s Solar Accreditation Australia number needs to be current. Your retailer will give you the system designer’s Solar Accreditation Australia number. You can check on the Solar Accreditation Australia website that your system designer’s accreditation status is current.
Note: You’ll need your system designer’s name and Solar Accreditation Australia number for your conditional application. And you’ll need your installer’s name and Solar Accreditation Australia number for your final approval application.
Step 2: Get your tenant's consent
Your tenants must agree to the installation. They are required to complete and sign the tenant acknowledgement and consent form.
It is a key part of the program that tenants are fully on board with having a new solar system installed where they are living and understand how the solar system will benefit them.
Step 3: Apply for conditional approval
Apply for conditional approval through the QRIDA application portal.
When you apply for conditional approval, you must provide:
- the quote for the eligible solar system that is dated after the program opening date (see Step 1 for quote requirements)
- proof of ownership of the rental property (e.g. rates notice, contract of sale)
- the signed tenant acknowledgement and consent form (see Step 2)
- an eligible fixed term tenancy agreement (lease)
- evidence that the tenant is the electricity account holder at the property or evidence that the tenant pays a calculated share (i.e. a percentage) of the electricity cost (e.g. as stated in the lease). A copy of the electricity bill together with a breakdown of how costs are divided among tenants can also serve as proof.
- evidence that the body corporate has approved the proposed installation (if the property is in a body corporate scheme)
- other documents as requested on the application form.
Step 4: Receive conditional approval letter
QRIDA will assess your application and notify you of the outcome. If your application is approved, you’ll receive a conditional approval letter.
Note: Due to high interest in the program, assessment and response times vary. If you have not had a response within 3 weeks, you may wish to seek an update from QRIDA referencing your application number (for existing applications only).
You will have 150 days from the date of your conditional approval letter to:
sign a new/updated the tenancy agreement (lease) for the property that includes conditions about the solar system (see Step 5)
finalise installation, connection and payment of your solar system (see Step 6)
apply for your rebate payment (see Step 7).
If you cannot complete the requirements above and submit your final approval application within 150 days, please contact QRIDA on 1800 623 946.
You must have your conditional approval letter from QRIDA before you progress to Stage 2.
Changes after your conditional approval
Your rebate application may be declined at Stage 2 – Final approval stage, if the installation details don’t match what was approved in your conditional approval.
If you plan to use a different quote or solar system than what was in your conditional approval application, you’ll need to notify QRIDA before making any changes. Your eligibility could be affected if you change the retailer business, module (panel) or inverter details, or the quoted cost.
If your tenant moves out and you lease the property to a new tenant, your eligibility will not be affected, provided the weekly rent stays the same as stated in the lease submitted at the conditional approval stage, and the new lease continues to meet the program’s eligibility criteria.
Stage 2 – Final approval application
Step 5: Sign the new (or updated) tenancy agreement (lease)
To qualify for the rebate, you must update your current lease with all parties re-signing it or create and sign a new one. This applies even if your current lease has more than 8 months remaining. When submitting your final rebate application, you’ll need to provide a copy of the fixed-term lease that meets the following criteria:
The lease has at least 8 months remaining at the time you submit the final rebate application.
The weekly rent amount is not higher than in the lease provided with your conditional approval application.
The lease specifies that a solar system has been or will be installed on the property.
The lease identifies who is responsible for the system’s maintenance.
Step 6: Install solar system and make full payment
Coordinate the installation with the New Energy Tech Approved Seller you nominated during the conditional approval process.
You or the property manager will need to comply with all relevant entry requirements of your lease and other obligations when installing solar under this rebate.
Your installer will manage the process of connecting your solar system to the electricity grid by working directly with Energex or Ergon.
To receive the rebate, you must have already paid the invoice in full. You can meet this requirement if you are making your payment through a finance agreement as long as you can submit documentation to the satisfaction of QRIDA demonstrating the finance contract is in place.
The invoice must include:
the name of installer
the date of invoice
the New Energy Tech Approved Seller business name, ABN and address
the applicant’s name
the address of the property
as a minimum, details of the panels and inverter that make up the solar system being installed, including:brand names and models of the Clean Energy Council approved modules and approved inverters
system capacity (size) in kW
total cost of purchase and installation of the eligible solar system.
Other components and products (e.g. solar batteries) that are not eligible under the program can be included on the same invoice, however these costs must be itemised separately to the solar system. The rebate amount paid out under the program can match, but not exceed, the cost of purchasing and installing an eligible solar system. Any ineligible items, such as batteries, included in your installation will not qualify for a rebate under this program.
Step 7: Submit final application for the rebate
When you submit your rebate application to QRIDA, you must attach:
- the updated or new tenancy agreement (lease) (from Step 5)
- the paid invoice (from Step 6)
- other evidence as required on the form.
Response times can vary depending on the volume of applications being assessed and you may not hear back from QRIDA straight away.
Eligibility information
Eligible applicants
To be eligible for the rebate, landlords (applicants) must:
- live in Australia
- own a rental property which is currently rented out, and not live in the rental property themselves
- have tenant consent (and body corporate consent where applicable).
Further information:
- I’m renting out the spare room of the property I’m living in – am I eligible for the rebate? No, owner-occupied properties don’t qualify for the rebate.
- I occasionally stay in the spare room of my rental (as my secondary home) – am I eligible for the rebate? You may qualify if you can prove that your main home is elsewhere. You’d also need to satisfy all other eligibility requirements.
- You are ineligible if your rental property is held in the name of a trust, self-managed super fund or other entity. The rental property must be owned by an individual i.e. a person, to be eligible.
Eligibile rental properties
To be eligible for a rebate, the rental property must be:
- located in Queensland
- a Class 1a building (a house, duplex, or townhouse) or a secondary dwelling to a Class 1a building (e.g. granny flat)
- currently rented out with an eligible tenancy agreement (lease) in place
- rented for $1,000 or less per week
- individually metered (have its own electricity meter).
More info:
Further information
- Are apartments eligible? No, apartments (or units constructed above or below another unit) are generally classified as Class 2 buildings and aren’t eligible.
- How many months must be left on my tenant’s lease for it to be eligible? The lease submitted with your final approval application must be for a fixed term and have at least 8 months remaining. If your current lease has less than 8 months remaining, you can still apply for conditional approval, but you’ll need to update the lease so there’s at least 8 months remaining before submitting your final application. The new lease must also meet other requirements. For full details, read the Applicant Guideline (PDF, 419.1 KB).
- If you own multiple rented properties, you can apply separately for rebates for up to 3 properties. Each application must be for a different street address.
Safeguarding tenant savings
To ensure tenants receive a cost-of-living benefit from this rebate, landlords must ensure:
- the weekly rent is not increased immediately after the solar installation
- the fixed-term lease (submitted with your final rebate application) has at least 8 months remaining with no increase in rent (even if your tenant moves out and you lease the property to a new tenant).
Properties are ineligible if they:
- already have a solar system installed (working or not)
- are part of an embedded network.
Landlords with a broken solar system on their property can choose to remove it if they wish to apply for a rebate under the Supercharged Solar for Renters program.
Eligible solar systems
Safety and consumer protection for landlords and tenants is a priority for the program.
To be eligible for a rebate, the system must:
- be supplied by a New Energy Tech Approved Seller (retailer)
- use panels (modules) and inverters that are listed on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) Approved PV modules list and the Approved inverters list
- have a system capacity of at least 3 kilowatts (kW)
- have a generation signalling device (GSD), regardless of system size (capacity and kilovolt-ampere (kVA) rating)
- be designed by a system designer accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia (SSA)
- be installed by qualified persons holding relevant Solar Accreditation Australia accreditation, Queensland electrical contractor and worker licencing.

Whilst I didn’t end up going with the policy from SunSmart SC for my solar and battery, they were certainly at the top of my preferences and they were excellent to speak to, discuss options with, and really catered my policy to what would’ve suited my property very well. Their pricing is really competitive and their team, especially Alex and Josh, were really awesome to deal with and customer service was excellent. I’d highly recommend having SunSmart SC at the top of anyone’s list who is considering a high quality solar installation package with great customer service alongside! Thanks guys 🙏🏼Posted on Google![]()

We had Sunsmart’s install solar then later home batteries they are a professional team I recommend. A few things didn’t quite work at first i think it was a complicated install. They worked through it by replacing the charger which is not their fault. I was happy with their follow up until everything was working properly.Posted on Google![]()

This is the second time we have used SunSmart. The first was to upgrade our solar panels and battery, and because of the service we received then, there was honestly no need to look anywhere else when we needed our EV charger installed. Once again, the boys did a great job. I would be remiss if I didn’t specifically mention JD. He was extremely thorough in his role as Supervisor, but what particularly impressed me was watching the way he instructed and directed his team and, importantly, mentored his apprentice. We all want good tradespeople, but good tradespeople don’t just happen. They need experienced people who are prepared to take the time to teach, guide and mentor the next generation. Watching JD do exactly that was wonderful to see. His professionalism was reflected not only in the quality of his own work, but in the standard he expected from those working alongside him. If JD and his apprentice are anything to go by, there is certainly hope for the next generation of tradies! Thank you again, SunSmart. You have now looked after us twice, and should we need you again, we know exactly who we’ll be calling.Posted on Google![]()

In Oct 2024, hailstorm damaged our solar panels. But our insurance company sent their own solar company to check and told us that our solar panels were good. We insisted to get them checked again. For the second time, our insurance company said they would not compensate us as the solar panels were still good. So we decided to get SunSmart to check for us. Josh told me that he would come and check for us. If nothing wrong with the panels, then no charge. However, if he found damages then we would have to pay $500 for the report to be submitted to our insurance company. We were so happy that we engaged SunSmart to do the testing as the inspection showed severe damages and our insurance company had no choice but approved the replacement. So thank you Josh and all the installers of SunSmart that installed of new solar panels. They were efficient and cleaned up before they left our place. Also we appreciate the co-ordination done by Callum who arranged the installation job to be done at a time that suitable to us and them. He always let me know when would they be coming and also replied promptly to my calls and questions. We also installed a battery as recommended by Josh. He came to explain and answer all our questions about the solar battery. So we decided to go ahead. And we were happy that we got a solar battery installed in Nov 2025. They also called to check if everything was ok after the installation. Today (29/9/26), I called Callum to send someone to check on our air conditioning units as they were not working …. as we thought it was due to the installation of the solar battery. Callum was quick to response and send JD. Now everything is working fine. We are happy for all the services provided by SunSmart. I recommended SunSmart to my friend and she has also installed solar systems at her house by SunSmart. We will recommend Sunsmart to our friends if any of them want to get a solar system. To us, they are efficient, prompt in they reply ( sometimes just have to wait a bit as they are busy) and easy to deal with. And the price is also very reasonable and compatible. So thank you so much Josh, Callum, Harry, Zeb, and JD for your help in providing good service in installing our solar panels, solar battery and checking on my AC. They also provide good customer service as they will always make sure our calls will be attend to by the receptionist and forward to the relevant departments. Please keep up with all the good works you have done. :-))))Posted on Google![]()
